Culture Park

Two temporary murals brought color and cultural storytelling to the lower paseos of San Pedro Creek Culture Park in 2023. Jocelyn Van contributed as one of the project’s lead artists/designers.

The San Antonio River Authority commissioned The Art of Four collective. Texas Public Radio credits Jocelyn Van Taylor and Tyson Davis as the lead artists/designers.

The Art of Four’s mission centers on a platform for Black artists. The project connected public space, cultural expression and community participation.

Community Paint Day took place on March 25, 2023. Participants met the lead artists and helped paint the murals.

The artists painted on Polytab mural cloth at In the Eye of the Beholder Art Gallery & Studio. This process allowed the work to be created in the studio before transfer to the site.

Community painting photographs are available in the River Authority’s original report. Studio process and installation photographs may be requested with the project documentation.

The finished works were delivered to the Travis and Houston Street underpasses and adhered to concrete walls, as documented by the River Authority. These are the locations of the two-mural project; individual wall attribution remains subject to the studio’s installation record.
